Since 1864, A Legacy in Community Banking

Waverly, IA - 1864  The Civil War raged on, Abraham Lincoln was president, and Bremer County witnessed the opening of its first bank: Johnson & Leavit Bankers & Brokers. Back then, land sold for pennies, the railroad had just arrived, and Civil War veterans were building a thriving trading community.

In 1884, Johnson & Leavit Bankers & Brokers achieved the status of a National Bank, indicating its growth and stability in the Waverly community.  Located in the heart of Waverly, the original First National Bank building stands today.

In 1998 new locations in Plainfield and Cedar Falls were added. In 2019, First Bank expanded to the Central Iowa with offices in Eagle Grove, Clarion & Goldfield. 

A name change in 2020 to First Bank reflects the commitment the bank has to investing in the future.  As the oldest bank in Northeast Iowa and the third oldest in the state of Iowa, First Bank continues to serve their customers with the latest products, customer services and leading technology.
